Quick answer: EUIN stands for Employee Unique Identification Number. AMFI issues it to every person who advises on mutual fund sales, so each transaction can be traced to the person who gave the advice. Employees of a bank or distribution firm apply for one under their employer's ARN. Individual ARN holders get their EUIN automatically with the ARN.

What is EUIN in mutual funds?

EUIN (Employee Unique Identification Number): a unique number AMFI issues to each person who advises investors on mutual fund purchases, linked to the ARN of the distributor they work for.

The ARN identifies the distributor. The EUIN identifies the individual inside that distributor who actually spoke to the client. A bank with 2,000 relationship managers has one ARN and 2,000 EUINs.

Why does EUIN exist?

SEBI introduced EUIN to curb mis-selling. Before it, a transaction showed only the firm's ARN, so nobody could tell which salesperson gave the advice. The requirement took effect on 1 January 2013 and now sits in SEBI's master circular for mutual funds.

With an EUIN on every advised transaction, the AMC, the distributor and the regulator can trace each sale to one person. If a sale goes wrong, there is a name attached to it.

Who needs an EUIN?

  • ✓ Bank relationship managers who sell mutual funds under the bank's ARN.
  • ✓ Employees of distribution firms, broking houses and wealth companies that hold a corporate ARN.
  • ✓ Sub-brokers placing business under a main distributor's ARN.
  • ✓ Individual ARN holders also have an EUIN, but AMFI allots it automatically with the ARN. You don't apply separately.

Selling under your own ARN?

Yes → Get your own ARN

Your EUIN comes with it automatically.

Under a bank, firm or sub-broker?

No → Apply for an EUIN

Under your employer's ARN, ₹1,500 + GST.

One question decides it: whose ARN are you selling under?

How do you register for an EUIN, step by step?

  1. Pass NISM Series V-A. The EUIN holder needs the same certification as an ARN holder.
  2. Get your employer's details: their ARN and authorisation to register you under it.
  3. Apply online on the AMFI website under Distributor Corner, using PAN and Aadhaar OTP authentication.
  4. Link the application to the employer's ARN and upload your NISM certificate.
  5. Pay ₹1,500 + 18% GST (₹1,770).
  6. Receive your EUIN once CAMS verifies the application for AMFI.

If you leave the firm, the distributor must inform AMFI so the EUIN is delinked from its ARN.

How long is an EUIN valid?

An EUIN is valid for 3 years. Renew it online on the AMFI portal before it expires, after renewing your NISM certification (by re-taking V-A or attending a one-day NISM CPE programme).

What do "EUIN" and "execution-only" mean on a transaction form?

This section is for investors who see an EUIN box on a purchase or SIP form.

  • ✓ If someone advised you, their EUIN should be on the form. It records who recommended the fund.
  • ✓ If no one advised you, the form can be marked execution-only. The distributor declares that the transaction was done without any interaction or advice, and the EUIN box stays blank.

The EUIN is needed on purchases, switches, and new SIP or STP registrations. It isn't needed on redemptions, SWP registrations, dividend reinvestments or ongoing SIP instalments.

Should you get an EUIN or your own ARN?

An EUIN lets you sell, but the commission goes to your employer's ARN. Your own ARN means the trail on your clients is yours. If you want to build a book you own, get your own ARN. See our ARN registration guide.

Dhan Saarthi (Khazana Fintech Pvt. Ltd., AMFI ARN-325085) is built for that step. You keep 90% of the trail on your clients, with one onboarding instead of 40+ AMC empanelments, and no upfront or seat fees.
